Prison Planet.com ? Pro-life Legal Group to FBI: Stop Your ?Gestapo ...

Michael Tennant
New American
July 30, 2012

A pro-life legal foundation is demanding that the Federal Bureau of Investigation cease its ?Gestapo tactics? against peaceful pro-life protestors and its ?witch hunt of anyone who is openly critical of the Obama administration.? The California-based?Life Legal Defense Foundation (LLDF), on behalf of pro-life activist Andy Moore, sent a?letter to the FBI threatening to take ?immediate legal action? should the bureau persist in its attempts to silence Moore and other pro-lifers.

On July 13 FBI agents appeared at Moore?s Dallas, Texas, home and proceeded to question him for more than an hour despite having no evidence that he had committed a crime. According to Moore?s mother-in-law, pro-life leader?Jill Stanek, the agents asked ?totally inappropriate questions clearly aimed at intimidating Andy,? including some about his wife, his religion, his reasons for protesting abortion, and other pro-life activists. They questioned him in depth about his relationship with Stanek and her influence on his activism. And they suggested that he?d better watch his step because, as an immigrant who has not yet attained U.S. citizenship, one felony on his record could get him deported. ?You wouldn?t want to be apart from your wife and newborn,? Stanek reported they said.

?Your agents? efforts to intimidate Mr. Moore and chill the exercise of his constitutionally protected free speech rights are deplorable,? wrote the LLDF.

Furthermore, when has it become the business of the government to invade the homes of private citizens and ask him or her questions about their employment, how they met their spouse, who their friends are, where they attend church, why they hold a specific political position, and why they engage in particular activities in the community? In case your agency needs a refresher course in the law they swore under oath to uphold and defend, the United States Constitution protects a person?s freedom of association, freedom of speech, and free exercise of religion.

The agents? intense interest in Moore?s relationship with Stanek ? a ?fishing expedition,? as she described it ? is quite understandable, as the LLDF observed:

Ms. Stanek is a speaker, blogger and writer who was a registered nurse at Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn, Ill., when she discovered babies were being aborted alive there and left to die on closet shelves without medical care. She later exposed that then state senator Barack Obama opposed legislation that would have required doctors to provide assistance to babies that survive abortion attempts, a position that critics described essentially as infanticide.

The reason for the FBI?s questioning of Moore thus becomes obvious: The ?agency, acting at the behest of President Obama, is digging for dirt on Ms. Stanek by threatening her family,? penned the LLDF, adding that it ?is committed to exposing your agency?s Gestapo tactics and will take immediate action in federal court if your agents? unconstitutional actions persist.?

  • A d v e r t i s e m e n t

The LLDF further charged that the questioning of Moore was part of a ?concerted effort [by the federal government] to systematically violate the free speech rights of ? pro-life advocates.? Indeed, as?LifeSiteNews.com reported recently, the government has been trying to ?gain intelligence on the pro-life movement? and then use that information to harass and even to prosecute pro-life activists under the 1994 Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act, which prohibits individuals from blocking access to abortion clinics and threatening or committing violence against clinic employees or patients.

?The Obama administration is essentially engaging in a witch hunt,? LLDF Senior Staff Counsel Allison Aranda told Stanek in an email. ?From the moment the new administration took office, the [Department of Justice] has been targeting peaceful pro-life sidewalk counselors. They have come out guns blazing on several occasions often bringing allegations that could later not be substantiated or in some cases clearly proven to be false.?

In one instance a federal judge, dismissing a lawsuit against a pro-life protestor for lack of evidence, wondered aloud ?whether this action was the product of a concerted effort between the Government? and the local abortion clinic. This is certainly plausible given that the government has issued a number of recent studies labeling pro-life activists potential domestic terrorists and ? even more to the point ? that ?the FBI set up a training program for police officers who are called to respond to conflicts between abortion businesses and pro-life demonstrators? using a training manual ?written by Planned Parenthood and the National Abortion Federation,? according to LLDF?s letter.

Fortunately, LLDF and other like-minded foundations are stepping into the breach to defend peaceful protestors whose only ?crime? is standing up for life at a time when the man in charge of federal law enforcement is committed to the culture of death. With so many lives hanging in the balance, let us pray that they succeed.

Kenyan Diamond Trust's first half profit jumps 39 pct

NAIROBI (Reuters) - Kenya's Diamond Trust Bank posted a 39 percent increase in pretax profit for the first half of this year, driven largely by a rise in net interest income, it said on Monday.

Lenders in east Africa's largest economy have been posting strong profits for the period despite facing a tough environment due to high interest rates, which crimped growth in loan books and increased non-performing loans.

Policymakers adopted a tightening monetary stance in the final quarter of last year, firmly supporting the local currency at the expense of borrowers and potentially the quality of banks' loan books.

Pretax profit rose to 2.86 billion shillings. Diamond said its net interest income for the period rose 47 percent to 4.3 billion shillings. It also increased its income from foreign exchange trading.

The bank, which focuses on services to small and medium-sized firms, also offers retail banking services in Burundi, Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.

It is in the middle of a 1.8 billion shillings cash call to fund expansion of its branch network to 90 outlets from the present 78 branches.

Its larger rivals, KCB, and Equity, expect to increase earnings in the second half of the year as lending picks up due to falling interest rates, their chief executives said last week.

CAR LEASING COMPARISON ? Yapperz.com - Speak out loud.

Car Leasing

Leasing is a wonderful alternative if you're hunting for a new auto. Nonetheless just before you sign up to a deal, you ought to read the following.

These common tricks are employed by some leasing companies to make deals seem more desirable:

1) Be careful of enhanced deposits

The most typical trick to make monthly payments seem lower is to improve the deposit (initial payment). The deposit really should be roughly 3 x the monthly payment.

two) Beware of the length of the lease

Most auto leases last for either 24 or 36 months - this is excellent (for vans, 48 months is also common). Another very well-liked trick to make monthly payments appear lower is to boost the length of a lease to 48 or 60 months.

This will of course bring down your monthly payments as you are financing the car for a longer period.

Warning: Your warranty is unlikely to be valid after 36 months. Consequently we advise you not to lease a automobile for longer than 36 months - as you will be responsible if a thing goes wrong.

In addition, the longer you have the automobile, the more susceptible you are to wear and tear charges.

3) Be wary of 'unlimited mileage' deals

'Unlimited Mileage' bargains are basically Finance Lease and as opposed to other varieties of finance, there is no direct excess mileage charge. This does not imply that the mileage is 'unlimited' even though as there is a residual balloon figure (owed at the finish of the contract) which is based on a set mileage.

If you have been sold an 'unlimited mileage' lease and you do a lot more than the mileage stated on the contract, you can pretty significantly guarantee that the car will not be worth the balloon figure at the finish of the lease, so you'll finish up obtaining to spend for the shortfall.

Finance Lease is also risky in today's economy - as it is difficult to predict what a vehicle will be worth at the finish of the contract.

four) Compare quotes on a like for like basis

Some leasing organizations aren't constantly clear what they are quoting for. This coupled with the fact that producers make so several diverse models can result in confusion.

Make sure you get a written quote with the total description of the car. This will assist you evaluate quotes on a like for like basis - And make certain you go ahead with the appropriate deal.

five) Use a organization accredited by the BVRLA and with office premises

The leasing market is fiercely competitive. Therefore why some leasing firms adopt the above bad tactics.

The BVRLA (British Car Rental &amp Leasing Association) seeks to raise requirements of operation and service within the leasing business. Members have to adhere to their strict Code of Conduct.

The BVRLA will also check that the leasing business operates from workplace/commercial premises.

To find a trustworthy company, we suggest only deciding on a BVRLA member. Locate a member at www.bvrla.co.uk.

The BVRLA will give you reassurance that the business is established and that they are committed to trading pretty and honestly.

No matter whether you are searching for inexpensive car leasing options or a lengthy term lease that you think is better than buying a car, there are some issues that you really should keep away from.

Geothermal summit planned to talk about state's clean energy goals

Thinkstock.com

Political leaders and geothermal energy and industry officials are gathering in August in Sacramento to discuss ways to help achieve California's clean power goals. Since 2006, 14 companies have built 28 geothermal plants or additions in nine states. Those facilities had a combined power capacity of 502.7 megawatts.

Political leaders and geothermal energy and industry officials are gathering next month in Sacramento to discuss ways to help achieve California's clean power goals. The GEA (Geothermal Energy Association) National Geothermal Summit will be Aug. 7 and 8 at the Hyatt Regency Sacramento.

The summit is in response to the need for policies to sustain industry growth, Industry officials say. Since 2006, 14 companies have built 28 geothermal plants or additions in nine states. Those facilities had a combined power capacity of 502.7 megawatts -- equivalent to the amount of growth in the 19 years from 1960 to 1979, which was considered a sold expansion period for the geothermal industry.

?Geothermal development is ramping up, but it needs policies that will support sustained growth and technological innovation,? GEA Executive Director Karl Gawell said in a news release.

Geothermal supplies about 4.6 percent of California?s power, but that could increase. More than 4,500 megawatts of geothermal power are being developed in California, Washington and Oregon.

Summit topics are expected to include the outlook for geothermal power for California and neighboring states, utility experience with geothermal, reducing risks associated with drilling and exploration, streamlining permits and incentives.

On Mandela's 94th birthday, some South Africans express ambivalence (+video)

While many South Africans spent today celebrating former President Nelson Mandela's 94th birthday and his efforts to maintain political stability, others say he 'sold out' poorer blacks.

By Scott Baldauf,?Staff writer / July 18, 2012

Former South African President Nelson Mandela as he celebrates his birthday in Qunu, South Africa, Wednesday, July 18. Across the country, and even abroad, people are doing good deeds to honor the country's most famous statesman on his 94th birthday Wednesday.

For much of the world, Nelson Mandela is the epitome of a saint; when given the chance to seek revenge against South Africa?s white population for the evils of apartheid, he called instead for reconciliation and tolerance.

At home in South Africa, it is this very call for forgiveness that is the center of controversy. Many black South Africans ? particularly those living in poorer townships ? ask if Mandela actually sold them out.

When Mandela was released from prison in 1990, and entered negotiations with the apartheid government of President Frederick De Klerk, he succeeded in guaranteeing free and fair elections that resulted in the peaceful transfer of power from the white racist National Party government to the black-majority African National Congress party in 1994. Separate negotiations over economic power ? such as ownership of land, mineral rights, industry, and the banking sector ? largely left whites in charge, a matter that continues to rankle many black South Africans.

Even Mandela?s own former wife, Winnie Madikizela-Mandela, famously told an interviewer in 2010 that her ex-husband was an ?albatross around the necks of my family,? and that he ?let us down.?

This view is by no means universal. On Wednesday, as many as 12 million South African school children started the day by singing happy birthday to the man they call ?Tata Madiba.? Tata means father in Mandela?s native isiXhosa language; Madiba is Mandela?s clan name, and a term of adoration for Mandela. Many South Africans of all races celebrated ?Mandela Day? by spending at least 67 minutes in community service, a minute for each year that Mandela served as a member of the ANC.

While some black South Africans express disappointment that Mandela didn?t push for a better deal with the apartheid government, many black South Africans argue that Mandela did a greater good for the country?s future by giving a higher priority to economic growth and stability rather than ?justice.?

Retired Archbishop Desmond Tutu ? who, like Mandela, received the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts at reconciliation in South Africa ? issued this statement on Mandela?s birthday:

"The greatest gift our nation could possibly give uTata Nelson Mandela for his 94th birthday this week would be to emulate his magnanimity and grace," Mr. Tutu is quoted by the Sowetan newspaper as saying. "Mr. Mandela taught us to love ourselves, to love one another and to love our country. He laid the table so that all South Africans could eat."

'Wazzock': British media hammer Romney on Olympic comments

(Charles Dharapak/AP)

LONDON?On day three of his overseas tour, Mitt Romney woke up to unfriendly headlines from the British media, which continue to trash him for telling NBC News that he found preparations for the Olympics here "disconcerting."

"Mitt the Twit," declared The Sun tabloid, condemning Romney as a "wannabe president."

The Independent headlined its take on Romney's trip "Romneyshambles"?accusing him of not only committing a diplomatic gaffe but later "the cardinal sin of U.S. politics, flip-flopping" on his criticism.

The Daily Telegraph suggested Romney's "Olympic gaffe" had overshadowed his trip to London.

Meanwhile, the conservative Daily Mail slammed Romney as "devoid of charm, offensive and a wazzock."

Romney's comments led newscasts on both Sky News and the BBC on Thursday night and early Friday morning, just hours ahead of the Olympic opening ceremonies here.

"Is this guy really prepared to be president?" one Sky News reporter asked in his Thursday night report about Romney's day in London. The reporter trashed the GOP candidate's comments as "just daft."

Romney has repeatedly tried to dial back his criticism, first in a news conference Thursday outside No. 10 Downing Street, where he had met with British Prime Minister David Cameron, who had been publicly critical of Romney's remarks earlier in the day.

[Get more updates from Romney's overseas trip by following @hollybdc on Twitter]

In an interview with CNN's Piers Morgan Thursday night, Romney again tried to contain the controversy, telling the CNN host he believes the London games will be successful.

"It's great. It's absolutely fabulous," Romney said of being in London for the games. "You know I'd never been to an Olympics before I was given the Olympic job. I mean I've done the same thing everybody else did. I watched the games on TV. But to actually be here and to experience not just the athletes but also the volunteers who are working hard and excited, and then the whole community comes together. ? It's fabulous."

Citing the "enthusiasm" of the people in London, Romney added, "I think you are going to see terrific games that will be long time in our memories."

Siri Mistakes Poison Ivy For Poison Oak In New Apple Ad - Business ...

Siri misidentifies poison oak

While Siri might get you into Hollywood A-list parties thrown by Martin Scorsese or John Malkovich, she might not be the most reliable camping buddy.

Apple's new ad for the iPhone 4s, which took up the glossy back page of the July 7-13 issue of The Economist, shows a hiker asking Siri, "What does poison oak look like?" Know-it-all that she is, Siri pulls up a picture of ominous looking vegetation with the retort "This might answer your question."

Except it doesn't...because that's a picture of poison ivy and not poison oak. Silly robot.

Botanist and director of the Chrysler Herarium at Rutgers University, Lena Struwe, noticed the misidentification when she was flipping through her Economist on the flight to a botany conference. (Of course).

"I saw the ad," Struwe told AP, "and I said, 'This doesn't look right.' I sent it to the botanist community, which led to a discussion. And it turns out it's poison ivy, not poison oak."

Although the photo comes from a Wikipedia article, showing that Siri isn't sadistically tricking hikers into frolicking in poison oak, this is still a pretty huge oversight for a major ad campaign.

Even weirder, this isn't even the picture Siri shows when you ask what ask what poison oak looks like. Here's what Siri pulled up when we asked the iPhone about the plant:

siri poison oak iphone

Weird. (And, in this case, accurate).

Emmy producer says memorial tribute a challenge

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. (AP) ? The producer of this year's Emmy Awards says it's a challenge to decide who to include in the ceremony's memorial tribute.

Executive producer Don Mischer said Friday that about three dozen stars and other industry notables are typically included in the "in memoriam" segment, although he says many more are deserving.

Mischer says he and the TV academy identify the late stars and other TV notables who will create an "emotional response" among Emmy viewers.

That drew a wry observation from Jimmy Kimmel, who will host the Sept. 23 Emmys on ABC. Kimmel said he loves that "even in death you're subject to a popularity contest."

Mischer says other than the host, the tribute segment consistently is the audience's favorite part of the Emmy telecast.

Spotting Home-Based Business Scams | My Network Marketing ...

The website selling home-based business opportunities looks like a professional news outlet, with a stock market ticker, video footage, and a list of reader comments?complete with typos. but it?s really baloney. that ticker? an animation. The news footage? an unrelated, pirated television clip. and the testimonials? Internet-fraud expert Christine Durst calls them ?testiphony-als??all posted under fake names within a few days? time, by crooks aiming to snare prospective entrepreneurs.

As the recovery plods along, many people who have lost jobs or are looking to supplement downsized income are likely to come across such websites offering big money for little work and no particular expertise. no one knows exactly how many will be duped, but given the explosion of faux news sites during the past year, the returns must be good, says Durst, chief executive officer of Staffcentrix, a Woodstock, (Conn.)-based company that has been designing career training programs for government and nonprofit agencies since 2001. She estimates hundreds of such sites, many pirating content from each other, exist online at any one time.

?Scammers rely on spam, paid ads, and posts to forums to drive traffic to their sites in huge numbers and in a short period of time,? Durst says. ?This is important to them since, once word gets out that they are a scam, they will have to shut the site down. Big, fast traffic ensures their success.? Many sites are highly sophisticated, using tracking software to detect where visitors are and then serving up ?success stories? purporting to be from that visitor?s location. They can also track repeat visitors and see what sites they come from and where they go, the better to electronically sniff out sleuths like Durst.

Last week she found a work-at-home site and started researching it. ?I left their site to visit sites that would lead a trained eye to believe someone was investigating them,? she recalls. When she went back to the original website about 10 minutes later, it was gone. ?They are very quick to hide, like cockroaches in the light.? When Durst checked again a few days later, the site had reappeared. ?I guess they thought they shook me off. People really have no idea how sophisticated these people have gotten,? she says.

Losses can range from a couple hundred dollars for work-at-home programs to $20,000 or more for people who get hooked on worthless business coaching or training materials that rely on pirated, decades-old books, including one Durst got that was originally written by P.T. Barnum. Bethany Mooradian, a Seattle blogger and author of I got Scammed so you Don?t Have To!, says scammers frequently post ads on websites such as Monster (MWW) and Craigslist. ?I find ads there claiming you can make money reading e-mails, sampling products, or completing surveys. you might be told to pay $20 a month to get on a list where you?ll get freelance work opportunities, but what you get is basic information you could easily find for free yourself,? she says.

With today?s technology and a few minutes of due diligence, no one should fall for such schemes. Many sites offer free research tools that can help check out companies, individuals, and websites, such as: Whois.com, Copyscape.com, TinEye.com, and Quantcast.com. To find out whether a company is legitimate, type its name plus the word ?scam? or ?sucks? into a search engine and look to see if it has been listed at consumer protection sites like Ripoff Report.

The main reason would-be entrepreneurs fall for scams is desperation, which becomes more pronounced in poor economic times, Durst says. Mooradian agrees: ?People are in a position where they don?t want to wait and check something out thoroughly. Desperation is never good for cash flow; you may realize something is not logical, but you don?t stop and think about it because you want to believe it?s true.?

Sales pitches that emphasize emotion and flashy promises but skimp on details about the company or actual work should be red flags. so should any business that describes itself generically as a ?system? or ?program,? Durst says. ?Most of these scams are a mile wide and an inch deep.? If you do fall for a fraud, don?t expect to recoup your loss, but do take the time to warn others away by reporting your experience to the U.S. Federal Trade Commission, the Internet Crime Complaint Center, and your state attorney general. ?You can get revenge by educating the marketplace and preventing these guys from getting other victims,? Durst says.

PFT: Hester shocked by cousin's murder charge

santonio-holmes-rex-ryanGetty Images

Rex Ryan loves Santonio Holmes, he just wants him to stay in his lane.

The Jets coach said Thursday he appreciated Holmes? input, but would prefer he limited it to catching passes.

Holmes said recently that he didn?t think two-quarterback systems (such as the Jets are planning with Mark Sanchez and Tim Tebow) can work in the NFL.

But Ryan offered a rebuke with his rebuttal, in an interview with ESPN?s Sal Paolantonio (via ESPNNewYork.com?s Rich Cimini).

?Well, I understand what Holmes is saying, you know Tone?s talking about a guy . . . [the starting quarterback] has to get a feel and all that kind of stuff,? Ryan said. ?But I brought Santonio in here to be a receiver, not to be the offensive coordinator. And that?s the way it is.

?I love Santonio, but if I wanted to hire him as our offensive coordinator, we would?ve.?

The man he chose for that job, Tony Sparano, defended Holmes? right to his free speech, but obviously disagrees, since it?s what he?s implementing.

?First of all, every player is entitled to their own opinion,? Sparano told Paolantonio. ?Every person is entitled to their own opinion. I been around long enough to know that there?s a lot of definitions of two-quarterback systems, and what some of these things mean, and what they don?t mean.?

Even though Holmes? message may have lacked nuance, there?s a kernel of truth in what he says. Sanchez might lack the ability to gain a certain rhythm if Tebow?s coming in to run around. But the bigger problem the incumbent has is handling the pressure of keeping Tebow on the sidelines.

It?s nothing more than good theater at the moment, and the Jets have just the cast of characters to keep things fresh.

Ah, Jets, don?t ever change.

Young Cancer Patients Often Lack Support: Study

MONDAY, July 23 (HealthDay News) -- Many teens and young adults diagnosed with cancer aren't receiving the social, psychological and informational support they require, new research suggests.

Cancer patients aged 14 to 39 have different needs and issues than younger and older patients, the researchers explained.

"When patients in this age group are diagnosed with cancer, they face issues -- premature confrontation with mortality, changes in physical appearance, disruptions in school or work, financial challenges and loss of reproductive capacity -- that can all be particularly distressing," study lead author Bradley Zebrack, associate professor of social work at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, said in a university news release.

"Whether it's mental health care, information for topics like infertility or other aspects of care like camps or retreat programs, this study shows that many of these patients aren't getting the care they need to address these unique challenges," he added.

Zebrack and colleagues surveyed 215 newly diagnosed teen and young adult cancer patients. Those in their 20s were much less likely than teens or patients in their 30s to use mental-health services and were more likely to report an unmet need for information about cancer, infertility and diet.

Young adults who were treated in adult, rather than pediatric, cancer facilities were more likely than teens who were treated in pediatric facilities to report an unmet need for age-appropriate websites, mental-health services, camp and retreat programs, transportation assistance and complementary and alternative health services.

The study was published online recently in the journal Cancer.

The lack of research involving teen and young adult cancer patients makes it difficult for health care providers to create age-appropriate services for them, Zebrack said. This study might help change that.

"Our research shows increasing patient referral to community-based social service agencies and reputable Internet resources can enhance the care and improve the quality of life for this group of patients," Zebrack said. "The more we know about their needs, the better support health care professionals will be able to provide."

Ecommerce Business | Help 1 Service Project

Selling online is known as ecommerce, internet retailing and e-retail. These keyword phrases, describe the process of presenting your products for purchase over the internet with the transaction additionally taking place over the internet.

There are many of proven and well-featured ecommerce software platforms offered by which you may decide to operate your web retail store, as well as selecting the most appropriate site for you is a case of researching all of the choices from a quantity of potential suppliers. Just like a lot of internet business providers e-commerce web site software also comes in various versions, which is on offer at a number of selling prices and also specialist levels. There are numerous fairly low-cost choices which might appear to be attractive to the newbie internet based retail outlet as they seem to give a low step straight into the field of web based selling with minimal financial risk.

Nevertheless, a lot of these options are often provided with minimal support to help you in the process of starting, designing and building a great success of your ecommerce site. The designs by themselves can typically be particularly restricted in functionality.

From the other end of the range are systems developed for very big establishments that are more sophisticated, and also really expensive. Ones most suitable option is always to obtain an ecommerce software program which offers yourself with full control to handle your own product inventory, customers and also orders by using a customer friendly web browser based control panel, at a cost that is reasonable for your requirements, and also the on-going training and help that will help you to create a success of one?s retail store.

The option you choose will need to have been made with organisations of your current size in view.

A great way to find suitable products is to glance at the present productive e-commerce internet sites of businesses very much like your business, as well as search for the companies that specially designed and also help support these web sites.

Operating an e-commerce retail store is actually an important step-up coming from having a sales brochure design internet site that merely highlights your product or service without the ability with regard to potential customers to purchase online. Getting into e-commerce gives by using it dedication from you to manage precisely what is, in essence, yet another retail store for the company. In a similar manner you will have to resource a physical retail store with stock, workers, shipping and advertising, you need to do exactly the same for an online shop. The best thing is that the overheads regarding developing and also operating a web based retail outlet are usually less than for an actual retail outlet, however it is by no means a case of basically starting the store and allowing it to function itself.

Merchandise choice is an important factor whenever trading on the internet. Brand name items that people are already in search of will always be a very good choice, because marketing and advertising can be geared towards attracting the people definitely searching for those named goods. When on your site some may then end up being drawn to other, less well recognised goods that additionally you supply however will not likely, automatically, draw in very much search targeted traffic. Regardless of what merchandise you sell online, it is crucial that they are promoted using top quality pictures which sufficiently show all attributes of the item, backed-up by an item brief description providing you with the customer with plenty of information and facts to help with making their judgement to purchase.

Internet shoppers can be put-off by simply not enough clarity and concern. Almost everything in relation to your ecommerce website must have to build confidence from the customer to purchase from you. Many of the ingredients that inspires confidence should be integrated into the actual online store software program system that you simply choose, such as style, in-site search and menu. However, your own daily administration among the web-site content is going to hold the biggest effect on this kind of achievement; a good e-commerce store that?s continually looked after and also up-to-date will constantly perform much better than one that is abandoned.

Digestive Enzyme Supplement and the Issues of Heartburn

You?ve just eaten a big meal and leaned back in your favorite chair to watch your favorite TV program. As you begin to relax, your chest starts to hurt so much it feels like it?s on fire. You may be experiencing heartburn.

According to studies, about 30% of adults experience occasional heartburn, while 10% experience heartburn almost every single day. Heartburn is common, and an occasional episode is generally nothing to worry about. However; supplementing your diet with a digestive enzyme supplement could prevent a more serious problem.

Most heartburn problems are mild, but if a person experiences frequent discomfort, there may already be some complications that need medical treatment or the use of prescription medications. If a person encounters heartburn several times a week, or if it returns soon after the effects of antacids wear off, medical attention may be necessary.

A person with heartburn should also consult a doctor if he or she often wakes up at night due to discomfort brought about by reflux. One may need further medical care, if a person experience difficulty swallowing, regurgitates blood or black material, suddenly loses weight, or if the stool is black in color.

?

Heartburn usually follows after a heavy meal. To understand how this condition comes about, it is best to be aware of what exactly happens when we eat food. The food that is swallowed travels from the mouth to the stomach through a hollow tube called the esophagus. Before food enters the stomach, it must pass through a tight muscle at the lower part of the esophagus called the Lower Esophageal Sphincter (LES).

The lower esophageal sphincter prevents food from traveling backward into the esophagus.

Once in the stomach, stomach acid slowly digests the food. This acid is very strong and can damage most parts of the body. This is why adding digestive enzyme supplement to your diet is important. Along with proper chewing of your food digestive enzymes is required for proper digestion.

Fortunately, the stomach is protected from its own acid by a special mucous layer. The esophagus, however, does not have any such special protection. If the lower esophageal sphincter does not close completely, the lower part of the esophagus can be damaged by stomach acid. When this happens, heartburn is experienced.

Heartburn can last for several hours and is often worse after eating, or when lying down, or when a person who just ate suddenly bends over. Heartburn is the most common symptom of reflux. Reflux occurs when acid in the stomach, which is there to help digest food, rises up into the esophagus, causing pain, irritation, and discomfort.

Some other factors that can make heartburn worse include certain foods such as fatty and spicy foods, chocolate, caffeine, onions, tomato sauce, carbonated beverages and mint. Alcohol, large meals, lying down too soon after eating, cigarette smoking, sedatives, calcium channel blockers and antidepressant medications can also trigger heartburn.

Heartburn, also called acid indigestion, is the most common symptom of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD); a disease in which stomach acid or, occasionally, bile flows back (refluxes) into the esophagus. Heartburn usually feels like a burning chest pain beginning behind the breastbone and moving upward to the neck and throat. Many people say it feels like food is coming back into the mouth leaving an acid or bitter taste.

?

Most people can manage the discomfort of heartburn with lifestyle changes. But if heartburn is severe, these remedies may offer only temporary or partial relief. Heartburn pain can be mistaken for the pain associated with heart disease or a heart attack, but there are differences. Heartburn pain is less likely to be associated with physical activity.

You should always consult with your healthcare provider before taking supplements or over the counter medications.

Commercial Real Estate Investing Basics | Red News

U.S. ? (llenrock.com) With great risks comes great rewards. While an investor can get rich buying and selling residential properties, true wealth comes from owning commercial real estate. Commercial real estate is somewhat unique among real estate investment types, as this kind of real estate requires a high investment to get into the game, much higher than most residential properties and poses equally great risks depending on what you plan to do with your property once you own it. Of course there are also many options for your commercial real estate investment that investors find appealing.

Most investors find leasing office building or warehouse space to be the safest route to take when it comes to starting out as a commercial real estate investor. They feel that this is a relatively steady source of income because most businesses prefer to keep their locations as long as possible. Smart business owners are well aware that customers, clients, and vendors need to be able to find them in order to do business with them and for this reason, prefer to keep their business in the same location whenever possible rather than reestablishing themselves in different locations year after year. While a residential real estate investor might have to search for a new tenant every two years, a commercial property sometimes has the same tenant occupying it for decades.

Commercial real estate investing is a different animal than buying traditional residential real estate that many of us might be more familiar or comfortable with. You will need to do a lot of research before jumping in with this particular sort of investment. Commercial real estate investments can take on many forms. From strip malls and outright shopping malls to business and industrial complexes to sky scrapers and high rise condos you will find all manner of commercial properties. Whether your interests lie in business or personal types of commercial real estate there are significant profits that can be made?

Often, Just Watching Prostate Cancer Is Enough - NYTimes.com

When Eddie Carrillo, a Los Angeles contractor, was found to have prostate cancer at the age of 52, his primary care doctor and his urologist both urged him to have his prostate removed. But after hearing about a ?watchful waiting? program on talk radio, Mr. Carrillo decided to simply monitor his disease rather than treat it.

That was 15 years ago, and Mr. Carrillo, still hale at 67, is glad he did not succumb to pressure to undergo surgery.

?What scared me, I wasn?t ready to do the operation right away,? Mr. Carrillo said. ?I have two uncles with prostate cancer, and I have quite a few friends who have had their prostates taken out. The discomfort level and what they went through afterward ? I didn?t think that was the way I wanted to go.?

This year, about 240,000 men will be given a diagnosis of prostate cancer. Although 81 percent of them will discover the disease at a very early stage, and although prostate cancer usually grows very slowly, most of these men will choose aggressive treatment, opting for removal of the prostate, or radiation treatments that often render them impotent or incontinent ? or both.

But about 10 percent of men choose a different strategy: no treatment at all. The decision to forgo surgery or radiation is controversial, and is often met with resistance from a man?s own doctors and family members.

The strategy is often called ?watchful waiting,? but some experts term it ?active surveillance? or ?expectant management.? In older men, watchful waiting may mean that nothing at all is done; doctors intervene only for pain relief or minor procedures if there are signs the cancer has spread.

In younger men, doctors typically conduct regular blood tests and biopsies to monitor the cancer. The idea is that they may recommend surgery or treatment later if it appears the cancer is aggressive and beginning to spread.

Few men choose watchful waiting and few doctors recommend it, but that may soon change. Last week, a groundbreaking new study showed that men with early-stage disease who opt for watchful waiting are just as likely to survive as men who undergo surgery.

The findings, published in The New England Journal of Medicine, come from a 15-year study of 731 men with early-stage prostate cancer who, surprisingly, had agreed to be randomly assigned to surgery or a program of watchful waiting. The fact that so many men had agreed to leave their treatment to chance is remarkable in itself. But so were the findings.

During the study, the largest of its kind, 52 men, or about 7 percent of the study subjects, died of prostate cancer. There was no statistical difference in the prostate cancer mortality rate or the overall death rate between the groups. Most men survived the disease whether they had surgery or did nothing.

And some men who had surgery died, as did some men who did nothing.

This Week: The permafrost challenge; diving the coral reefs; and treatment options for prostate cancer.

The study suggests what many doctors have long believed: While most prostate cancers are not life-threatening, a vast majority of men who receive the diagnosis are given aggressive treatments. About 100,000 to 120,000 radical prostatectomy operations are performed in the United States each year.

Dr. Timothy J. Wilt, professor of medicine at University of Minnesota School of Medicine and lead author of the report, said the study should give men more confidence to consider watchful waiting as a viable option after a prostate cancer diagnosis.

?Men have a strong belief that if they are diagnosed with cancer, they will die from the cancer if it?s left untreated, and they believe that treatment will cure them,? said Dr. Wilt. ?This study adds to growing evidence that observation can be a wise and preferred treatment option for the vast majority of men. It allows them to live a similar length of life and avoid death from prostate cancer and avoid the harms of treatment.?

Many men report feeling pressure from both doctors and family members to seek treatment rather than monitor the disease. One 49-year-old man who received his diagnosis three years ago said his doctor did not even give him the option for watchful waiting and discussed only surgery and radiation treatments. (He asked that his name not be published to protect his privacy.)

But after researching his options, he enrolled in a Seattle study of active surveillance, and now undergoes regular biopsies and tests to monitor the cancer.

?The cancer is not going anywhere right now,? he said. ?If I had surgery or radiation right away, I was going to live with it for more than half my adult life. If I wait and it does grow slowly, then I still have a chance for a while at a normal life.?

But the few family members and friends he has told about his diagnosis have not supported his decision. A long-term relationship ended, in part, because he would not seek aggressive treatment, and only recently has his father accepted his decision.

?The thing that strikes me is that there is an assumption that by getting treated you are eliminating risk,? he said. ?That?s just not the case. You can have surgery and still die of prostate cancer. You have risks whatever choice you take, and a lot of it is figuring out what things are important to you.?

Dr. Leonard Marks, a professor of urology at the University of California, Los Angeles, said that both patients and doctors need more education about watchful waiting.

?Ninety percent of men who could qualify for active surveillance are actually being actively treated,? said Dr. Marks. ?It requires a lot of education, a lot of teaching, to understand the concept that not all cancers are the same.?

Wow, this book is full of information, recipes, photos and more! What to make what to make? I decided an easy breakfast would be nice so I went for the Savory Apple Chicken Sausage and Banana Pancake For One.

The sausage is just a shredded apple, poultry seasoning, ground chicken and a little salt and pepper. Form into patties and pan fry, easy! I froze some of the patties raw for another day, they were just as delicious. The pancake was for my little boy and he loved it as well.
I have many tips and recipes marked for future use, yes I know I've been cooking for many years, but even I can still learn from this book. I have never made gnocchi, they have an easy looking recipe in there for Gnocchi in Sage Butter, so I hope to give my hand at it. Maybe even one day our oldest will benefit from this book too.

NCAA to punish Penn State; Paterno statue removed

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) ? The NCAA announced Sunday that it will issue sanctions against Penn State in the wake of a scathing report that found that top university officials buried child sex abuse allegations against a now-convicted retired assistant and led to the tearing down of the famed statue of once-sainted coach Joe Paterno.

Shortly after Paterno's statue was removed Sunday, six months to the day after he died, the NCAA came forward to say that it will levy "corrective and punitive measures" against the school. The sanctions will be spelled out Monday, the NCAA said without disclosing further details.

NCAA President Mark Emmert hasn't ruled out the possibility of shutting down the Penn State football program in the wake of the scandal, saying he had "never seen anything as egregious."

The Paterno family issued a statement saying the statue's removal "does not serve the victims of Jerry Sandusky's horrible crimes or help heal the Penn State community."

"We believe the only way to help the victims is to uncover the full truth," said the family, which vowed its own investigation following the release of an investigative report by former FBI Director Louis Freeh that found that Paterno and three other top Penn State administrators concealed sex abuse claims against Sandusky.

The family called the report "the equivalent of an indictment ? a charging document written by a prosecutor ? and an incomplete and unofficial one at that."

The bronze statue, weighing more than 900 pounds, was built in 2001 in honor of Paterno's record-setting 324th Division I coaching victory and his "contributions to the university." Students chanted, "We are Penn State" as the statue came down.

Penn State President Rod Erickson said he decided to have the statue removed and put into storage because it "has become a source of division and an obstacle to healing."

"I believe that, were it to remain, the statue will be a recurring wound to the multitude of individuals across the nation and beyond who have been the victims of child abuse," Erickson said in a statement.

In Washington, a White House press secretary said President Barack Obama believed "it was the right decision."

By many of those watching the statue's removal stared in disbelief and at least one woman wept, while others expressed anger at the decision.

"I think it was an act of cowardice on the part of the university," said Mary Trometter, of Williamsport, who wore a shirt bearing Paterno's image. She said she felt betrayed by university officials, saying they promised openness but said nothing about the decision until just before the removal work began.

Dozens later gathered to watch and listen to the sound of sawing, scraping and shoveling as workers removed Paterno's name and various plaques from the walls behind where the statue had stood. Shortly before midday, all that remained was the bare concrete and stone.

Few watching said they understood the decision and feared what kind of punishment the NCAA would pile on.

Cloresa Turner, who drove up from Martinsville, Va., to see the statue, clasped her hand over her mouth when she saw the statue was gone.

"He's done so much for this university. It's sad," she said. "To wipe it all away is like he meant nothing."

In NCAA terms, the Penn State case is stunning partly because of the swift action by the governing body for college sports. NCAA investigations on issues it normally handles, such as improper benefits, can drag on for months. But in the wake of the release of the Freeh report July 12, the NCAA has shown rare speed in moving toward the punishment phase for Penn State.

Recent major scandals such as the Reggie Bush case at the University of Southern California and players at Ohio State trading memorabilia for cash and tattoos have resulted in bowl bans and the loss of scholarships.

Current NCAA rules limit the so-called death penalty ? shutting the program down completely ? to colleges already on probation that commit another major violation. But NCAA leaders have indicated in recent months they are willing to use harsher penalties for the worst offenses. That includes postseason and TV bans, which haven't been used extensively since the 1980s.

"This is completely different than an impermissible benefits scandal like (what) happened at SMU, or anything else we've dealt with. This is as systemic a cultural problem as it is a football problem. There have been people that said this wasn't a football scandal," NCAA President Mark Emmert told PBS. "It was that but much more. And we'll have to figure out exactly what the right penalties are. I don't know that past precedent makes particularly good sense in this case because it's really an unprecedented problem."

Another question hanging is whether Penn State ? and, by extension, Paterno, major college football's winningest coach ? will have to vacate any victories. Paterno won 409 games for the school in his 46 seasons as head coach. USC lost a national title when it went on probation and Ohio State vacated the 2010 season, including its victory in the Sugar Bowl over Arkansas.

Kayla Weaver, a Penn State senior and member of the dance team called the Lionettes, said an NCAA death penalty would not only force the football players to transfer, but it would also force program changes for cheerleaders, dancers and band members and would hurt season ticket holders.

"It could ruin everything that we've built here," said Weaver, 21, from Franklin Lakes, N.J.

On Twitter, Akeel Lynch, a running back recruit who played high school football in western New York, wrote, "I still bleed blue and white," while quarterback Matt McGloin wrote, "The hotter the fire, the stronger the steel."

Tight end Garry Gilliam tweeted, "No matter what happens, I'm staying at Penn State."

Marilyn Nagel: Women Heroes in Tech: The Best Kept Secrets of Silicon Valley

If you Google "women in tech," it's likely that the same 5-10 women will pop up in your search results. These hyper-visible women (Sheryl Sandberg, Marissa Mayer, Susan Wojcicki, to name a few) have become the poster girls of women leaders in Silicon Valley. They're great at what they do, and they certainly act as role models for women interested in breaking into tech. While creating a group of superstars serves its purpose, I fear that seeing the same faces repeatedly gives the impression that they're the only women succeeding in Silicon Valley, when in reality, exceptional women leaders are not as hard to find as one might think!

As CEO of Watermark, I'm constantly surrounded by powerful, razor-sharp women who support one another as well as the women within their organizations by encouraging them to advance, take advantage of opportunities, and make the right career choices.

In highlighting the women below, I seek to widen the pool of female heroes in tech. They might not have a huge PR machine behind them, but these women have truly made their mark on the professional landscape in Silicon Valley. They're role models in terms of what they've achieved for their businesses, themselves and in terms of their support for other women. Each of these women has a unique approach to championing women in their industry, but they all share something in common: the ability to contribute and foster positive, inclusive cultures in the companies they work for.

Kimberly DeCarlis, Vice President of Corporate Marketing, Citrix Systems

"The Citrix culture is one based on inclusion and opportunity for everyone -- women and men across diverse backgrounds are what make Citrix unique and special. In fact, in speaking with many of the women here, it is no surprise that they want to stand on their merits, not their high heels! Women at all levels want to be recognized not because they are women, but because they are really great at what they do, whether that's marketing, product design, engineering, finance or HR. At the end of the day, we all want opportunity. It's so motivating and inspiring to see that rewards, recognition and advancement are based on merit, and on driving great outcomes for Citrix.

One of the key ways to support this culture is embrace it every day. For example, the recognition programs on my team are based on merit... we share publicly what people have done to support the company's goals, and we focus on outcomes. It's also important to lead by example. My leadership team and I socialize ideas with stakeholders across the company, and share this approach with the broader team. This includes asking for help -- ranging from getting a new project moving, to dealing with constraints, to solving a problem -- and when leadership shows they don't always have the answers and need help, it makes it acceptable for others to do the same. When we hire, we look to find the best person for the job and as a result have built a team that has incredible diversity, along a number of spectrums -- gender, ethnicity, lifestyle, age. Our culture thrives because there is opportunity for everyone."

Judith Sim, Chief Marketing Officer, Oracle

"A major part of our company culture here at Oracle is allowing employees to drive and take responsibility for initiatives that matter to them. The Oracle Women's Leadership (OWL) group actually started as a grassroots organization -- employees developed it as an organization they could leverage, and it's been astounding to watch it develop into a global corporate program in such a short amount of time.

Being active in groups like OWL sets a positive example for everyone in the organization to work toward diversity and overall accountability. Participating in those conversations and being visible are very important when you're leading. When there's an OWL program coming up, I send personal email notes to teammates and peers, letting them know about the program and that I'll be there. Encouraging others to join in makes it easier for them to participate, and it does a lot to boost confidence levels.

Often, half the room is from my own organization because I've sent those invitations out. I get so much satisfaction out of seeing them speaking out and participating, getting a chance to be visible in that dialogue. The first thing I see is their confidence grow, and over time, I hope this sets an example for other organizations.

Sometimes it seems difficult to maintain this behavior because -- let's face it -- we're all super busy! However, it's so important to keep building that 'pay it forward' culture. I continuously see the leadership at Oracle do it, which makes it easier for me to do to maintain. My hope is that in turn, it becomes easier for other managers as well."

Maya Strelar-Migotti, Vice President of IP and Broadband Development, Ericsson

"One of the key principles of our culture at Ericsson is diversity. To us, diversity means male and female, people of all nationalities, backgrounds, and beliefs. It's critical for us to strengthen that, and I'm pleased to see that more and more companies in Silicon Valley are starting to pay attention and take steps toward a better balance. Research shows that more diverse teams lead to better governance and a higher return on investment, which is exactly what we want here at Ericsson.

I couldn't be more excited to observe that since I arrived here about two and half years ago, the leadership at Ericsson in Silicon Valley has increased greatly. We now have six female vice presidents, not to mention several director-level women leaders.

For a long time, I've been an active mentor for talented director-level women within Ericsson who want to move further up. It's important to take a hands-on approach, giving upcoming women the tools and advice necessary to get them to the next level. At Ericsson, we've begun a program called "Women in Leadership" to help members achieve their career goals through networking, best practices, career development, and balancing their work and personal lives.

Often, women executives have such a busy schedule -- sometimes helping others goes to the bottom of the priority list. You have to keep in mind that by helping develop women leaders in your company, you're making it stronger. More women at the top -- and more diversity overall -- is a goal we should constantly reach for, especially in our industry."

Company Culture Is Key

Each of these women are supported by the companies they work for, and it's important to keep in mind that they don't take that support for granted -- they work hard to shape it, contribute to it, and lead by example. Maya, Kim, and Judy are true champions of talent, diversity, and merit -- they would bring these qualities to the table at any organization!

Who are the role models in your company? What do they do to champion other women leaders in tech? How do they support and contribute to a positive company culture?
